โ๏ธ My journey with the Moon
I grew up in a small fisherman Village during the early 80โs in Chile, South America.
Back then, while the country was under a dictatorship, this place was quite isolated but for any child, it was a dream! During the day we had the magic of nature, the power of the Sun, surrounded by playfulness, and during the night the sky became filled with the Moon or stars.
No wonder many fell in love with this place, including my mother who landed here from the Netherlands after traveling for a few years.
During those wonderful years, I grew up playing, swimming in the sea, exploring & discovering, and climbing trees. Sometimes, we were with my mother at a friendโs house, and we needed to go to our home. Back in the day, there werenโt streetlights in many places, and the only light we had to navigate ourselves back home was the Moon. And if the Moon wasnโt visible, because she was in her dark phase, we followed the stars and our inner compass.
Even though it could be scary at night as you could feel the mysteries floating just above the ground, remembering legends and stories, the Moon still took center stage, and we needed to stop briefly just to admire her.
Other times when at the bay during the evenings you could see her just hanging above the ocean. This was majestic and pure bliss, especially during her full phase. I could stay there for hours just looking at her. As a child, I could almost feel she was trying to say something, I just couldnโt really hear her or understand her language.
For me, she felt friendly and I got a feeling of safety from her.
As I got older, and moved away from the village to a coastal city, just an hour away, and later moved all across the world, whenever I could see Moon always took the time to admire her and to experience her.
As I try not to write endlessly I just took the opportunity today to share a short introduction about my relationship with the Moon. Next, Weโll dive into a more technical phase regarding the Moon which will help you get you started with Moon Journaling
๐ฅ Getting started with Moon Journaling
Itโs known the Moon has a great effect on the planetโs oceans. If the moon is capable of doing so, what would you think its effects are on you? on each of us? I mean, we are made of roughly 70% waterโฆ
So seeing and feeling the effect of the Moon reflected on us can be one of your best tools in becoming aware of yourself and your inner oceans.
So, let's get a bit technical!
It takes the Moon around 29.5 days to complete a single cycle around our planet Earth. Unfortunately, our current calendar system doesnโt consider the moonโs journey, meaning the Moonโs cycle does not sync with our regular monthly calendar.
Thatโs why itโs useful to combine both calendars when journaling - and for that matter, workings - with the Moon.
The Moon Cycle
Each Moon cycle starts with the New Moon Phase, has its peak at the Full Moon Phase, and ends on the last day of the Crescent Waning Moon Phase.
The Moon has, as you can see, phases in her cycle. This part can get a bit confusing as there are many moon phases in one cycle(1). If weโre new to the Moon working and Moon Journaling the best thing we can do is to take a bit of time during the New Moon and the Full Moon. A moment to feel and reflect on how we feel during these two moments.
So when is the New & Full Moon? You may askโฆ
Well, Google and Moon's apps are your friends!
My current favorite information tools are:
Astro-seek.com
Chani app
Below I added 3 images: one from the Chani app and two from Astro-seek:
With the Chani app, youโll see immediately where the Moon phase and moon zodiac sign are. In this example, it immediately tells us that itโs the Moon Full.
With Astro-seek, however, we need to go the โmoonโ tap. From there, we land on the current month's calendar. You can find the New and Full Moon phase dates and other information by scrolling down.
What I like form Astro-seek is that you can go to the past and future to look for dates and phases, among other interesting things.
We have laid the technical foundation, so now we can move on to Moon Journaling!
Moon Journaling
Choose a nice - but not too nice or expensive - journal, notebook, or binder. This needs to be a place where you enjoy coming back to.
With that said, also choose & use a pen that feels good to write with.
Check when the New and Full Moon will be and add these dates to your (digital) planner/calendar.
Find a moment, let's say 30 minutes, on those days to be alone
Start by relaxing for at least 5 minutes. You can meditate or find a voice-guided meditation on YouTube or via an app. Just make sure there wonโt be ads added somewhere in the meditation.
Then grab your journal and start writing! Write whatever is going on in your head and how you feel as well.
Optional: get crafty with colorful pens, stickers, and other materials to start decorating your journal pages.
Thatโs it!
As I said before in other letters, after a while of journaling intentionally youโll start noticing patterns and rhythms. Youโll start to become more and more aware of yourself(2).
I created a beautiful New Moon Journaling page (PDF A4) to get you started. Print this page and paste it into your journal/notebook or add it to your journal. Youโll find the instructions down below ๐
You can also add the journaling prompts below for inspiration.
(1) For now, donโt worry too much about the phases. Iโll write about them later on.
(2) Keep reading future letters for more information, tips, and tricks.

๐ซ My WeatherVaneโs Flow
In last weekโs letter, I talked about the magic of decluttering and how doing this - little by little - has created space in all senses of the word and has invited inspiration, motivation, and intentions.
And with those three magical power energies, a realization came too: my inner child isnโt happy with parts of my journaling & study system.
You see, I always thought I wanted to have one place - and thus a notebook/journal or binder - to go to when journaling or note-taking while studying. For that, I was using A4 binders as well. But by doing this, I created an unorganized boring mess and as someone with three planets in Virgo, I wasnโt happy about that either.
The resultsโฆ
They didnโt invite me to come back inโฆ So I didnโt!
I realized I wanted to have spaces where I could see in a glance whatโs happening plus having that organized space to be beautiful too. This meant โฆ
โ Creating & finding several journals/notebooks/binders for different subjects & themes.
And with all the planning thatโs been going around lately, I also dove into my cabinet to find a journal for each purpose. Because yeah, I collected many journals throughout the years and didnโt dare to use them โฆ until now!
Even more, I went to the store to get me some A4 hard-cover notebooks, as I was running low on thoseโฆOnce in the store, I couldn't resist to grab more journaling-related thingsโฆOh wellโฆ
As a true Gemini, I can say: the stack is massive ๐ซข
