📖 Stop setting New Year’s Resolutions
For this first post, I wanted to talk about a subject everyone around this time is talking about: why so often New Year’s resolutions fail but adding a key element no one else is talking about: the seasonal energetic and what winter has to do with it.
But first: what are New Year’s Resolutions?
According to cambridge.org:
New Year's resolution is promise that you make to yourself to start doing something good or stop doing something bad on the first day of the year.
More often than not, New Year’s Resolutions are accompanied by setting yearly goals and embracing a lot of (healthy) routines in an attempt to create the best version of ourselves and/or start working toward the life of our dreams.
And there is nothing wrong with that and wanting to create positive change in our lives!
This post is about not having the right timing 😱
Winter is the foundation for everything in life. Linked to the Earth Element, this is where everything comes from and goes back into. So winter can be seen and felt as a pause, from the nothingness where we can finally stand still and think/feel/envision what we really and truly want. This will happen no matter what, meaning this process is always in motion, a cyclical motion - even in Winter when things seem to be at a standstill - and you can take intentional tiny and slow steps to emerge yourself consciously into the natural flow or let it happen unconsciously.
What I have discovered for myself, talking/sharing with those around me, and what I see over and over again is that most of us flow unconsciously into this process. We tend to skip this essential first step and go on to make endless resolution lists and set goals without a strong foundation.
As I mentioned in my last post, Winter can be compared with nighttime. Unless you're a night owl and/or work during the night, I presume you’re (hopefully) sound asleep, resting, and dreaming.
During this (more or less) eight-hour period, we are recharging our batteries so we can wake up in the morning rested, fresh, and full of energy to go back into the world and do our thing. It’s during the day we actually work on designing our best life and taking the actual steps to make those designs tangible.
Therefore, if winter can be energetically compared to nighttime, and you normally are asleep during this time…
Why are you forcing yourself to stay awake and work on those goals?
So we can try and lean into our will for a few nights but at some point, we gonna crash and burn, because there is no fuel (no energy) in our tanks to keep us moving. Hence, we give up on our New Year Resolutions and goals and often feel like the motivation for the rest of the year has gone out of the window.
Unfortunately, the spark, ignition, and motivation we feel around the new year is a short one.
Just look at nature right now…
If you live in the Northern Hemisphere depending on your exact location, chances are that the Winter and its weather is cold, dark, and is the darkest period of all the four seasons. Nature and animals turn inward. There is no mating, nesting, or anything around those lines right now. Yes, we might see some wildlife out there, but the quantity and its energetic are at their lowest right now.
I wrote more on this a while back in the post down below 👇
On starting the year in Spring
Happy Wednesday dear ones! In this week’s letter, you’ll learn about…
Even though the energy is at its lowest during Winter, it doesn’t mean we do nothing for the entire Winter!
Winter is the time when we combine the period of sleeping and resting with setting strong and deep roots in the earth. These roots form the foundations upon which our intentions and goals can be built later on.
When we embrace cyclical living as a lifestyle we start to observe nature and mimic it. This goes beyond just simply looking outside to see what is happening out there, but it asks us to look internally and see + understand what is happening inside of us and why it’s happening. Then we combine both we start unveiling our unique formula so we are able to aim and navigate our desires in the best way possible to create the life we dream of.
In the next post, we’ll dive deeper into how we can set this foundation. But for now, I will leave you with these questions:
What does your ideal life look like? & what is the ideal version of yourself?
⭐️ Tip: journal about these questions as often as possible, and start unveiling your true desires.
